Best RSPS Servers to Play in 2026

By RuneRank · Published 10 Sept 2026

"Best" means something different for every player, so this guide is not a list of names we picked. It is a short checklist for judging a RuneScape private server yourself, followed by the servers our community is actually voting for this month.

What actually makes an RSPS worth playing

An active population at the hours you play

A server with a few hundred players spread across the day feels busier than one with a big headline number and nobody online when you log in. Log in at the time you normally play before you commit anything to an account. Weekend evenings look very different from weekday mornings.

A stable economy

Look at how gold enters the game. Servers that hand out huge starter packs, run constant 5x drop weekends, or sell top-tier gear in a store tend to inflate quickly, and your first week of grinding becomes worthless by month two. A server that has kept the same currency and item values for a year is telling you something good.

Updates you can read

Check the forum or Discord for a changelog. Regular, boring updates — bug fixes, content tweaks, balance passes — are a much better sign than one dramatic announcement every six months.

Fair monetisation

Cosmetics and convenience are normal. Combat stats and best-in-slot gear for cash are not, unless you specifically want that kind of server. Read the store page before you read the hype thread.

It should be easy to leave

A good server does not lock you in with an account you can never recover or a client you cannot uninstall. Download the client from the official website only.

Red flags worth walking away from

  • No visible owner, staff team or history
  • A Discord full of "when is the reset" questions with no answers
  • Uptime that drops for days at a time
  • A store selling raw gold at scale
  • Promises of "the biggest RSPS ever" from a server that opened last week

Where the live rankings come from

Every listing on RuneRank is ordered by votes that real players cast during the current month, and the count resets when the month does. That keeps the top of the list moving instead of freezing around whoever arrived first. Servers can buy advertising, but advertising is labelled and never changes where a server sits in the ranking.

If you want to understand the scoring in detail, read how RSPS voting and top lists work.

Narrowing it down by play style

Most people find a server faster by starting from what they want to do rather than from a top 100 list:

Try two, then commit to one

The cheapest way to find your server is to make an account on two or three, play for an evening each, and pay attention to how the game feels rather than how the website looks. Then put your hours into the one you enjoyed and vote for it daily — that is what keeps it visible for the next player looking.
