Best Custom RSPS Servers
By RuneRank · Published 10 Sept 2026
A custom RSPS does not try to recreate RuneScape. It uses the engine and the art style as a starting point and builds something new on top: original bosses, extra skills, new item tiers, custom zones and progression systems designed by the server's own team.
If you have played the official game to death, this is where the genuinely unfamiliar content lives.
What "custom" can mean
- Custom bosses — new fights with mechanics written from scratch
- Custom skills — extra skills beyond the standard set
- Custom gear tiers — item progression that continues past the familiar endgame
- Custom zones — mapped areas that do not exist in RuneScape
- Custom systems — collection logs, prestige, upgrade paths, perks
Servers use the word loosely, so it is worth asking exactly which of these apply before you decide.
How to spot good custom content
It is designed, not just added
Good custom gear slots into a progression curve. Bad custom gear is a stat sheet with a bigger number, released every month, so last month's grind is dead. Look at whether older content still has a purpose.
The mechanics are new too
A recoloured boss with 500,000 hitpoints is not custom content, it is a longer fight. Ask whether the custom bosses have unique mechanics you have to learn.
The art is coherent
Custom items and models that match the game's look suggest a team that cares. A patchwork of clashing assets usually means the same is true of the code.
The store is not the progression
Custom servers are especially prone to selling the newest tier. If the fastest route to the top gear is the store, the content is decoration.
The trade-off to expect
Custom servers ask you to learn things. There is no wiki for a boss that exists on one server, so you will rely on in-game guides, the Discord and other players. That is part of the appeal for some people and a dealbreaker for others. If you would rather play something you already understand, look at OSRS private servers.
Where the list comes from
Custom servers on RuneRank are ranked by votes cast this month by real players, so what you see reflects current activity rather than an editor's opinion. Delisted or closed servers drop out automatically.

Trying one properly
Custom servers make a poor first impression if you rush. Do the tutorial, read the in-game guide book if there is one, and get far enough to see one piece of original content — a custom boss, a custom skill, a custom zone. That is the thing you are really deciding on.
