How to Find a Good RuneScape Private Server

By RuneRank · Published 10 Sept 2026

Finding a server is easy. Finding one you are still playing in three months is the hard part. Here is a method that takes about twenty minutes and saves a lot of wasted grinding.

Step 1 — Decide what you want first

Searching "best RSPS" without knowing what you want gives you a hundred answers. Pick one:

Step 2 — Shortlist three, not thirty

Open a ranked list and take the top few in your category. Ranking on RuneRank comes from votes cast this month, so it is a reasonable proxy for who is active right now.

Step 3 — Read the Discord, not the advert

The advert is written to sell. The Discord is written by the people who already play. Look for:

  • Announcements posted regularly over the last few months
  • Staff replying to bug reports rather than deleting them
  • Players talking about content, not just about drama or downtime
  • A changelog with small, frequent entries

Step 4 — Check the store

Open the donation store before you make an account. Ask yourself whether a player who spends nothing can reach the same gear as a player who spends a lot. If the answer is no and you are not fine with that, move on now rather than after two weeks.

Step 5 — Log in at your hours

Player counts are averages. What matters is whether anyone is around when you play. Log in, stand somewhere central and watch. Ask a question in the help chat and see whether anyone answers.

Step 6 — Give it one evening

Do the tutorial, get to mid-game, try the content you came for. If you enjoyed the evening, you have found your server. If you were bored, you have lost one evening instead of a month.

Signs a server is fading

  • The last announcement is months old
  • Uptime keeps dropping for long stretches
  • Staff are recruiting more staff than players
  • Repeated "economy reset" announcements
  • The owner has gone quiet

None of these are automatically fatal, but two or three together usually mean the server is winding down.

Keep the ones you like alive

Small servers survive on visibility. Voting daily costs you nothing and is the single most effective thing a normal player can do for a server they like. Read how RSPS voting and top lists work if you want to know exactly what your vote does.
